Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Blue Ocean Ventures Inc. ("Dad's Academy", "we"). By creating an account or using Dad's Academy, you agree to them. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your family's information.

1. Accounts are for parents

  • To create an account you must be 18 or older (or the age of majority where you live) and the parent or legal guardian of each child you add, or have their permission.
  • You are the account holder. Children use Dad's Academy as "cadets" under your account and your supervision. They can't open accounts, make purchases, or change settings.
  • Keep your password, and your children's PINs, private. You're responsible for activity under your account.
  • By adding a child, you confirm that you have read the Privacy Policy and that you consent, as their parent or guardian, to our collecting and using their information as it describes. This includes the protections in the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), PIPEDA and BC PIPA.

2. What Dad's Academy is, and isn't

Dad's Academy offers adaptive practice in Math, English/Reading, Science and Life Skills for grades K–9, a Command Center for parents, and an optional Windows companion. It supplements school and your own involvement. It doesn't replace either. We don't promise any particular grade, score or academic outcome.

Pip, the AI coach, gives general suggestions based on your child's practice. Its answers can be incomplete or wrong. Use your own judgement, and talk to your child's teacher about anything important.

3. Free and paid plans

  • Free to start. No card required. The free plan includes 5 questions a day in one subject, rotating across the week.
  • The paid plan is priced per child. It unlocks every subject, unlimited daily practice, adaptive levelling, "This Week at School" and earn-to-play screen time with the Windows companion. These are features of the paid plan only.
  • Prices are shown in your local currency at checkout and on our pricing page. Payments are processed by Stripe. Taxes may apply.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each monthly or annual period, until you cancel. We'll email you a reminder 7 days before an annual renewal.
  • Cancel anytime from the Command Center. Your paid features stay on until the end of the period you've paid for, and then the account moves back to the free plan. Refunds are handled as described in our Refund Policy. This doesn't affect any rights you have under consumer law.
  • If we change a price, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email. The new price applies from your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.

4. The Windows companion

  • The companion is optional. It runs on Windows PCs only and requires the paid plan; it can't be used on the free plan.
  • It locks the PC to learning until screen time is earned or you grant it, and it logs the apps used and the website addresses visited during unlocked time, as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Install it only on a computer you own or are authorised to manage, and only for a child in your care. Please tell your child that the companion is there and what it does.
  • It's a household screen-time tool, not a security or content-filtering product. A determined user may be able to get around it, and it doesn't filter or block content. Use it alongside, not instead of, your own supervision and operating-system parental controls.

5. Acceptable use

Don't misuse Dad's Academy. Don't try to break or overload it, reverse-engineer it, scrape it, share accounts outside your household, upload anything unlawful, or upload other people's personal information (including other children's faces or names in "This Week at School" photos).

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you upload. You give us permission to use it only to run and improve Dad's Academy for your family, as the Privacy Policy describes.

7. Our content

The questions, artwork, characters (including Pip), software and the Dad's Academy name belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your family's personal, non-commercial learning.

8. No advertising to children

We don't show advertising to children, and we don't ask children to buy anything. All purchases are made by the account holder.

9. Ending your account

You can close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless the law prevents us. When an account is closed, we delete its information as the Privacy Policy describes.

10. Disclaimers and liability

In plain terms: we work hard to keep Dad's Academy accurate and available, but it's provided "as is", and to the extent the law allows, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

11. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change, we'll give account holders at least 30 days' notice by email. If you keep using Dad's Academy after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree, you can cancel.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
